             90-00185, Boeing D model kit number M3337, was a CH-47D helicopter. The U.S. Army acceptance date was 21 December 1990. As of 22 June 1998, 90-00185 had accumulated 862.5 D model hours and 3,953.5 total aircraft hours. 90-00185 was a conversion from the original C model Chinook 70-15009. On 12 January 1990, 90-00185 was inducted into the D model program, converted, and initially assigned to the Kansas Army Reserve on or about 4 January 1991. At some point, 90-00185 was assigned to Company A, 5th Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, Washington Army Reserve. As of 1 January 2002, this aircraft was 30.7 years old. The last known location of 90-00185 was at Gray Army Airfield, Fort Lewis, in the State of Washington, assigned to A Company, 5th Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment. Aircraft status: Flyable.

             Shielding their faces from the sting of the ice and snow stirred up by rotor blades of the Chinook helicopter that had just deposited them there, a team of National Park Service rangers prepares to practice for high-altitude rescues. They're at the 9,000-foot level on the northeast side of Mount Rainier, at Camp Schurman.
